It’s safe to say, a major in math, science, or engineering is a sure-fire way to get into some really high paying careers. But what if you’re not a fan of crunching numbers?

Whether you know exactly what your dream career is or you are struggling to find anything that interests you, these are the majors that don’t require much math or science that lead to the highest paying careers.

 

Fashion Design

Average salary: $96,596

Entry-level job titles include: Junior Buyer, Design Assistant, Textile Designer 

Fashion Design is a major that will appeal to those who are looking for a creative career, and there’s plenty of directions that it can take you. As well as working in a fashion house, you could find a role designing clothes for mall favourites or you could decide to use your creative skills to design textiles, work as a buyer, or even explore fashion PR. 

If you were to stick to Fashion Design, average salaries are nearly $100k!

Business

Average salary: $160,588

Entry-level job titles include: Junior Management Consultant, Marketing Executive

A Business major can teach you a lot. Sure, there are very mathematical subjects like accounting and finance but also the more creative side like management, marketing, and entrepreneurship. 

If you fancy seeing yourself taking a seat in the boardroom or working as a management consultant you can expect an average salary of around $140k. Director-level roles in business can demand salaries well above this, so the sky’s the limit!

Digital Arts

Average salary: $99,605

Entry-level job titles include: Graphic Designer, Front-End Web Developer, NFT Expert 

A major in Digital Arts has a lot of potential. You’ll need to be digitally savvy and creative too. 

There are some really interesting new roles emerging for Digital Arts majors including working in NFTs. NFTs are “non-fungible tokens’ allowing something unique, that cannot be interchanged for something else, to be traded. In the case of digital art, it’s the creation or trading in tokenized digital artwork.

A Psychology major will see you exploring the human mind and behaviors. You’ll need a solid grounding in natural and social sciences so you’ll need to have studied at least one science right through to the end of high school. However, you’ll also get to explore elements of anthropology, sociology, philosophy and history. 

Post graduating, you can consider careers in business and education or pursue further study to become a Psychologist, Therapist, or Counselor.

Physical Therapy

Average salary: $89,129

Entry-level job titles include: Physical Therapist, Sports Physio

Physical Therapy is the only major on this list that requires many science courses in order to complete the degree. However, the career of a Physical Therapist does not focus on chemical equations but on understanding how the human body moves and coaching patients throughout their recovery. 

This is a person focused career that could lead you to private practice, working at a hospital, or even joining a sports team as their physio.

Entry-level job titles include: Journalist, Editorial Assistant, Marketing Executive, Writer 

Majoring in English can lead you down a lot of different career paths. You could decide to go into journalism or writing or forge a career in marketing or communications. 

Salaries for each of these professions vary greatly and can be highly competitive. High earning roles include Editor, Marketing Manager, and Communications Manager. At the lower end, many writers make less than the national average.

Average salary: $93,746

Entry-level job titles include: Realtor, Property Manager

Studying for a major in Real Estate has a pretty clear career path. However, there are a few different pathways you could take from sales negotiation to commercial property.

You’ll need to have a head for numbers and a good handle of math in order to ensure you can negotiate with clients confidently. 

During your college years, you’ll also study law, sales, and psychology, which will give you an insight into the types of skills you’ll need to then pursue this as a career.

Foreign Affairs & International Relations

Average salary: $122,414

Entry-level job titles include: US State Department, US Foreign Office, Diplomat, Civil Servant, Researcher

If you’re looking for a career that takes you places then a major in International Relations or Foreign Affairs could set you off to a great start. While a degree in this area doesn’t lead you down a specific career path, you’ll gain a detailed understanding of world politics, writing, analytical skills, and law, which means you’ll have loads of transferable skills. 

Most likely, you’ll find careers in government, journalism, law, international charities and NGOs, as well as international business, which will all suit your academic experience.

Management

Average salary: $70-110,000+

Entry-level job titles include: Operations Assistant, Project Manager, Management Consultant 

Management is a super diverse major with many different career paths. You’ll gain knowledge of all areas of business, from marketing to finance to operations. 

Many people choose to study a Management major alongside a complementary subject to give them a bit more focus when they’re looking for jobs. 

This breadth means that salaries can really range with the average salary of a Management Consultant just over $140,000, a Finance Manager at just over $85,000 and a Marketing Manager at just over $100,000.

“Pre-Law”

Average salary: $92,697

Entry-level job titles include: Attorney, Lawyer, Prosecutor, Judge Advocate General in the U.S. military, Legal Clerk.

Although there are no specific college majors in Law, students can take classes in law and legal history and may decide to major in another relevant subject such as Political Science, History, or Philosophy. 

You’ll then need to go to Law School in order to study Law at postgraduate level. 

Once you’ve finished up at Law School there’s potential to earn big bucks. Attorneys can expect to earn between $150-200,000 and Judge Advocates can expect to make over $100k after 2 years of service. Judge Advocates also get all the perks of being part of the US military, including paid tuition fees and sometimes even subsidized housing.
