Despite the global pandemic, there are currently over 17,000 open temporary Christmas jobs in the US. After analyzing 4.5 million jobs in November according to new research from job search engine Adzuna, holiday employment is in full-swing.
Topping the list of companies still looking for seasonal staff are UPS (5,679 jobs), Amazon (3,001 jobs), department stores Macy’s (2,901 jobs) and Kohl’s (1,527 jobs). Walmart set out plans to hiring 20,000 seasonal workers in September, and there are still 1,000s of these jobs yet to be filled.
With much of 2020 Christmas shopping projected to be online, there are plenty of Logistics & Warehouse roles open this year: with positions for delivery drivers and warehouse assistants topping the seasonal jobs roster. This accounts for 13% of all contract jobs available across the country (7,881 total contract roles).
Retail Sales, normally the stalwart sector for Christmas jobs, accounts for just 7.7% of open roles this year as retailers expect consumers to move away from malls (4,807 jobs), though big box stores including Best Buy (175 jobs) and Tapestry (35 jobs) continue hiring.
Meanwhile the start of ski-season brings opportunities in winter resorts like Vail Resorts, hiring now for over a hundred cooks, restaurant staff and rental associates to help run their sites (132 jobs).
Jobseekers looking for particularly festive roles may wish to consider roles as Christmas Light Installers, Christmas Tree sales associates and Gift Wrappers, all currently available across the US. Meanwhile, for those wishing to spread goodwill, the Salvation Army are recruiting over 100 bell ringers to help their holiday fundraising campaign.

Online shopping has become even more prominent this year and top logistics companies like UPS and Amazon are looking for extra staff to help meet demand. The big retailers like Macy’s, Kohl’s and Walmart are another worthwhile area to explore, though many of the positions being offered are back-office or warehouse based as consumers buy from online vs. in-store. With many seasonal roles paying $15 an hour or more, taking on a christmas job can be lucrative.”
