Technology is evolving and becoming integral in every instance of our lives, because of this jobs in technology are increasing all across the country. Bigger states and cities certainly attract technology jobs and companies, however, some states on this list may surprise you. Using data from Adzuna, we crunched the numbers to find out which states have the most job listings for IT positions. Here are the top ten:

Location, Location, Location

With the unofficial technology capital of the world, Silicon Valley, it’s not surprising that California ended up on top of this list. Startups and seasoned companies alike can be found in California, contributing to the constant stream of IT jobs in the west coast state. The top three companies hiring in California are Apple, Facebook, and Amazon.

Texas may not come to mind when you think of technology jobs, yet it has the second most job listings in the country, and the city of Austin has a lot to do with this. Austin is a growing city in Texas that has started to attract many tech companies. Corporate headquarters are relocating or opening up second headquarters in this southern city, bringing with them all the IT jobs.

Virginia is another somewhat surprising member to the top three states on this list. However, when you stop to consider that the number one employer for IT jobs is headquartered in Virginia, it makes more sense. Booz Allen Hamilton Holding is an information technology consulting company and they advertise for thousands of IT jobs in Virginia and other locations around the country.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for IT jobs is $87,880. That is 77 percent higher than the national average of  $49,630.
