Position Overview - Electrical Engineer

Under general supervision, performs Engineering job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities assist and support management in engineering equipment design and development; system design; materials testing; review; checking and commenting on designs/drawings/data prepared by subordinate engineers and subcontractors; engineering studies and report preparation; and engineering computer programming as assigned. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas: civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical or chemical in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Provide analysis and assistance for electrical engineering matters ranging from three-phase medium voltage distribution systems (13.8 kV) to three- and single-phase application voltages (480/220/208/120 VAC) with concentration and focus on NEC, and NFPA DOE arc flash analyses and safety practices
  • Assists Maintenance and Operations forces in the field to troubleshoot electrical problems, to develop repairs and modifications for existing electrical systems, and to confirm as-built conditions as part of arc flash evaluations and drawing updates.
  • Prepares engineering forecasts, quality take-offs and change orders.
  • Prepares preliminary and final specifications and designs.
  • Perform inspections, assess hazards; develop recommendations on electrical issues.
  • Develop and asses electrical arc flash in accordance with NFPA 70E. SKM modeling capability desirable.
  • Evaluations operations & proposed modifications to determine compliance with engineering disciplines and standards, federal, state, or local statuses, and environmental regulations.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and evaluates potential technologies.
  • Works with Engineering team to provide technical guidance to field project personnel.
  • Assumes the lead role on Engineering projects assigned.
  • Maintains familiarity with current technical developments in pertinent scientific areas.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring accuracy and completeness of all data and work produced.
  • Provides assigned technical or functional support to team members.

Working Conditions

Work is normally in an office environment at a normal environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Some exposure to excessive heat and cold on limited bases. Must have the ability to climb ladders, and steps. Accurate distance, near and depth vision is required. Foot, eye and hearing protection are required to be worn when working outside of the office environment. Potential exposure to heavy equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.

Ability to perform sedentary to moderate work, exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, non-repetitive, up to 20 pounds frequently, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.

In some cases radiological training may be required including the ability to wear respiratory protection and disposable PPE.

BS degree in a related field and 2 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 2 - 4 years.

Design Engineer II

Minimum Requirements

BS degree in a related field and 3 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 3 - 6 years.

Design Engineer III

Minimum Requirements

BS degree in a related field and 5 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 5 - 8 years.

Design Engineer Senior

Minimum Requirements

BS degree in a related field and 7 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 7 - 10 years.
