A quick note: This opportunity is for people who want to help young children develop social-emotional intelligence through small group music education. We will eagerly hire individuals who are amazing with kids and are adequate musicians over very experienced musicians. Tell us why you think you'd be a good fit for our program in your application. We look forward to hearing from you!

Gather is a community-oriented boutique play space and enrichment center in Evanston, IL that is deeply focused on creativity and learning. Because we believe heavily in the value and power of diversity, our team comes from a wide variety of backgrounds, working together to build unique experiences for children and their favorite grown-ups centered around creativity and connection.

Gather4Music is our incredible music program for children ages 0-5 years old and their parents or caregivers. Gather4Music works to connect children and their grown-ups in joyful music-making in a warm, encouraging, and fun environment. Using nursery rhymes, circle songs, movement and games, we introduce concepts of music (like tone and beat) and practice important life skills (such as turn taking and building self-confidence) all while fostering community and friendships. We believe it is never too early to instill a love for music!

This role is currently part-time and candidates must be available to teach based on our current or upcoming class schedule. Our candidates MUST be passionate about teaching and creativity and have the patience and flexibility to work with children of all ages and skill levels. To facilitate learning, you will use our carefully crafted curriculum and will soon be singing, playing instruments, and creating a fun, challenging, and safe environment to learn and grow.

If you are interested in teaching social emotional development through music, can play an instrument or two, and love working with children, this could be the right job for you!

  • Lead assigned classes by pre-reading, rehearsing, and ultimately knowing the curriculum
  • Welcome and connect with families by making sure to adapt to the skill and confidence level of each student
  • Encourage a fun and engaging experience
  • Facilitate connection to music and the creation of a safe and bonded community within each class experience
  • Participate in training and providing feedback to program lead about your experience with students and the curriculum

  • Experience working with children is highly preferred; a background in education is a plus
  • Ability to play an instrument and accompany oneself is highly preferred. We are open to a variety of instruments so long as it is portable and will not prevent you from leading a class
  • Detail oriented and takes coaching well
  • Must be patient, warm, and fun

We are very much looking forward to reading your application!
