Through the Health federally- funded research and development center (FFRDC),MITRE exclusively serves in the public interest and helps to bring world-classexpertise to bear on key challenges facing the nation. MITRE operates the HealthFFRDC on behalf of US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). MITREserves as an objective, independent, not for profit advisor supporting many ofthe complex analysis and critical thinking requirements that encompassbusiness, policy, technology, and operational interests across HHS.


The Health FFRDC is growing rapidly, particularly through increasingengagements with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and theNational Institutes of Health (NIH). These efforts are exceptionalopportunities to have a substantial impact on public health matters of nationaland international importance. MITRE is seeking additional staff skilled in publichealth informatics to work on Health FFRDC engagements that will have a markedand long-lasting impact on the health of the American people and interests.


Key Functions:


The successful candidate will be part of MITRE teams that advise federal, state,and local stakeholders as these agencies seek to modernize their public healthdata and technology infrastructure. In this role, candidates will advise thegovernment on the best public health tools and resources needed to improvetimeliness, completeness, and quality of reporting to public health agencies atthe local, state, and federal level. Candidates' recommendations will informfederal agency decision-making on how their technology and data management choicessupport appropriate and effective exchange of information between public healthentities and between public health and partner organizations. Candidates inthis role will also advise federal agencies around data and technologysolutions that support evidence-based intervention strategies that reduce morbidityand mortality.


Candidates will apply their knowledge of the broad principles of computerscience, information sciences, and behavioral and management sciences to enableeffective public health research, surveillance, response, and evaluation thatwill support improved decision making for these federal agencies They will leadand manage multi-disciplinary teams with a variety of health and non-healthrelated backgrounds to develop solutions that serve the federal governments'efforts to modernize their data and technology infrastructure. Successfulcandidates will ensure that these multi-disciplinary teams consider the uniqueaspects of public health informatics in their problem-solving activities. Theywill develop reports and presentations for both lay and professional publichealth audiences that effectively communicate findings and promoterecommendations to improve efficacy. They will also support and coordinatemulti-site, multi-agency, and multi-stakeholder initiatives to help advance keynational public health objectives.


The ideal candidate for this role understands that informatics is not merely theapplication of data science, analytics, or management science. Rather, it isthe synthesis of these fields to support the transformation of raw data intouseable information through the integration of those fields with behavioralscience.


Qualifications


Required Qualifications:


- Advanced degree (Masters or higher) in either public health science or informatics

- 7 or more years applied experience working at a local, state, tribal, territorial, or federal public health agency

- Applied expertise working with public health information systems, open data sources, and data standards

- Applied expertise working with public health data sets conducting data analyses and quality assurance practices, and storing data efficiently

- Applied expertise in electronic information exchange between public health data systems and other information systems

- Provide translation between information technology experts and public health and health care subject matter experts


Preferred Qualifications:


The ideal candidate will also have some of the following experience:


- Creating and leveraging resources through collaborative public and private partnerships to advance public health goals

- Working with the Federal Government in a consulting or advisory role

- Convening and leading stakeholder groups

- Knowledge of public health response, especially as concerns public health surveillance, interventions

- Knowledge of critical public health internal and external stakeholders at the state, tribal, local or territorial levels and/or working with CDC

- Knowledge of state and federal public health laws, including public health reporting

- Knowledge of advanced statistical methods used in cutting-edge epidemiologic analyses


Desired education: The successful candidate will have a master's or doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health Informatics, or a related field (MPH, MS, PhD, DrPH)


Minimum Qualifications: BS and 10 years related experience in public health informatics OR a masters degree and 7 years related experience
