Please Note: This position may be filled at either the Actuarial Analyst III or Associate Actuary level. Manager will determine level based upon the selected applicant's skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.





The Actuarial Analyst III or Associate Actuary completes diverse and complicated projects and performs complex to highly complex actuarial studies.





Provides high level of analytical support for cost of care quantification and health claim cost trend analyses. Focuses efforts on lowering claims costs, improving the quality of care, and increasing member and provider network satisfaction. Provides expert advice, analytic and consultative support to management on cost of care and trend issues. Works on the most complex, large-scale cost of care initiatives and trend analyses and acts as project lead. Acts as a strategic partner to management. Responsible for communicating opportunities to improve health care affordability and for providing answers and stories from the data for client consultation for improving health care affordability. Analyses support a clear linkage from Cost of Care initiatives to the Financial Statements including Op Gain and trends.





Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:



- Performs key actuarial functions including new product pricing, evaluation of the impact of new legislation, flexible benefit consulting, and special projects.

- Use analytical tools to perform sophisticated trend analytics for Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare business and improve analytical reporting to identify meaningful trend drivers with linkage to financial results.

- Develop the most complex new models and modify existing models to quantify cost of care and complete trend analytics.

- Responsible for valuation support for business unit by interpreting financial results, variances from forecast to help identify product and segment behavior to assist in the risk management of the business unit.

- Collaborates and coordinates with associates throughout the company to share ideas including plan cost-savings, opportunities, analysis techniques and models, data issues and general knowledge.

- Validates Health Plan's cost savings initiatives ensuring consistent and established analytical methods and standards, and provides ongoing support, including sizing and validation of Cost of Care Initiatives, to business unit leaders.

- Presents models during workgroup calls and explains analyses to a diverse audience.

- Works closely with our business partners to help them understand the risks and impacts of medical policy decisions and other cost of care initiatives.

- Works with and supports counterparts in other states and for the enterprise.

- May assist in training of actuarial trainees, analysts and specialists.




Qualifications





Actuarial Analyst III Qualifications:





- Requires a BS/BA degree; required to have passed at least four Society of Actuaries (SOA) actuarial exams; at least 3 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

- Experience in managed healthcare analytics preferred.

- Experience with Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare analysis preferred.

- Working knowledge of SAS/SQL strongly preferred.

- Advanced Excel knowledge strongly preferred.

- Power BI/Tableau experience strongly preferred.



Associate Actuary Qualifications:





- Requires a BS/BA degree; ASA required from the Society of Actuaries (SOA); at least 4 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

- Experience in managed healthcare analytics preferred.

- Experience with Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare analysis preferred.

- Working knowledge of SAS/SQL strongly preferred.

- Advanced Excel knowledge strongly preferred.

- Power BI/Tableau experience strongly preferred.
