AES is seeking Senior Developers of renewable energy for the Western, Central and Eastern Region. This role will be the primary person responsible identifying and negotiating acquisitions and partnerships for mid and late stage wind, solar, storage, or hybrid projects in the target region that align with AES clients’ needs. The role will involve identifying, originating, performing due diligence and executing acquisitions or partnerships with 3rd party developers with support of internal and external specialists. The role requires experience coordinating due diligence efforts and negotiating renewable energy transactions as well as a detailed understanding of regional permitting and power market conditions.
This position will be based in the western, central or eastern regions and will report to the VP of M&A within AES Distributed Energy.
Originate utility scale renewable energy acquisitions/partnerships
Identify development prospects including market assessment
Stay abreast of market de
velopments and maintain relationships with key market participants
Pitch proposals to 3rd party developers or lead participation in auction processes
Lead due diligence efforts around environmental permitting, land, interconnection, resource assessment, construction
Negotiate transactions of various structures from outright purchase to longer term partnerships
Coordinate due diligence efforts and findings
Integrate various specialist workstreams into development and engineering processes of business and transition acquisitions to development teams
Pursue requisite approvals at various levels of the organization
Respond with agility to dynamic commercial needs of organization
The preferred candidate should have a minimum of an undergraduate degree and seven+ years of experience in project development, M&A, commercial management within renewable energy
Advanced degree or MBA preferred as well as proven technical acumen
Solid understanding of utility scale wind, solar, or battery projects and the development and financing thereof
Financial modeling experience using Excel with the ability to evaluate offers for consistency with business needs
Strong presentation and interpersonal skills required to technical, financial, and regulatory focused audiences.
The candidate should be capable of conceiving and communicating compelling offers, respond to solicitations considering seller needs and creatively bridging internal organizational needs
Possess strong verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrated business judgment and individual initiative while also able to be effective in multi-disciplinary team environment
Ability to work remotely, utilizing technology to stay connected to colleagues in other locations.
Ability to travel 20-40%
