Job Description:
This position will develop and execute operational procedures for the Surface Mount Technology lines that deliver quality, cost, efficiency, and safety results associated with Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing processes. Develops, implements, and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects, and communicates them to internal and external customers. Estimates and tracks manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Assists in the evaluation of engineering change orders and ensures compliance with manufacturing requirements; devises manufacturing methods and adjusts manufacturing processes to incorporate change orders. Initiates investigations of assembly or design problems based on analysis of manufacturing statistics or other data and works with design engineering to develop and implement engineering change orders to correct problems.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain manufacturing procedures for all PCBA manufacturing processes and provide recommendations and rationalizations for improvements
- Provide programming and technical support for the SMT process equipment used in PCBA manufacturing, such as solder paste printing, solder paste inspection, pick and place, thermal profile monitoring system, and x-ray inspection
- Monitor and improve the efficiency, output, and safety of manufacturing processes through observation and measurement as well as by collecting and interpreting data
- Work closely with Purchasing, Quality, and Engineering for quality control of raw materials and components
- Assume responsibility of safety/environmental compliance and performance of processes
- Participate in the process of evaluating and purchasing new equipment and/or upgrades to existing equipment
- Achieve operational performance targets in support of departmental and business results
- Investigate new technology, material flow, plant layout and assembly processes. Specify manufacturing equipment and develop justifications for the purchase of capital equipment.
- Support prototypes, expedites, and DFM recommendations
- Responsible for training of assembly and process personnel
- Establish preventative maintenance, assist in troubleshooting, and support repair of SMT equipment
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or relevant degree program with a minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior relevant experience
- 7+ years' experience with PCB Manufacturing
- Prior experience with PCB and SMT Technology equipment
- Prior experience and success implementing process improvements
- Ability to execute troubleshooting, problem solving and decision-making within the SMT manufacturing/PCB Assembly/Reflow manufacturing processes
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification
- Experience in manufacturing of high reliability electronics for military and government systems
- Background in developing manufacturing processes and NPI experience
- Ability to execute troubleshooting, problem solving and decision-making within the SMT manufacturing/PCB Assembly/Reflow manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of MIL/IPC workmanship and performance standards related to electronic assemblies
- Familiarity with AS9100 industry standards and common military specifications
