Telesitter/Patient Safety Sitter - Patient Monitoring

Description

Provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients via Avasys Telesitter or direct one-on-one observation under the guidance and direction of RNs and/or LPNs. Verbally redirects patient and contacts nursing staff if patient requires additional assistance to maintain safety.


  1. *Demonstrates understanding and proficiency in the use of the AvaSys TeleSitter Solution software and basic computer operation.
  2. *Communicates effectively with patients and staff while maintaining discretion, courtesy and an understanding of patient privacy.
  3. *Maintains visual observation at all times, whether individually or observing multiple patients at one time on a monitor. Verbally redirects patient accordingly and per department procedure and protocol. Immediately contacts the nursing staff if patient requires assistance.
  4. *Provides appropriate care to patient population based on the patients individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN. Multitasks and prioritizes simultaneous situations.
  5. *Participates in hand-off of pertinent assigned patient information/behavior when arriving and upon completion of shift. Consistently communicates with nurse and waits for replacement, prior to vacating the monitoring station for any reason to ensure constant patient observation.
  6. *Provides patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  7. *Seeks help or advice immediately when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to Charge nurse or nurse caring for patient.
  8. *Demonstrates safe work practices, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs.
  9. *Maintains vigilance in observation of patients for safety by not engaging in any distractions, including but not limited to, the use of personal cell phones, computer access, reading material or other visual material not directly involved with the care of the patient.
  10. *Works with the nursing staff to set and maintain patient care, work priorities and a changing workload.
  11. *Adheres and upholds all organizational customer service policies and standards while caring for patients, their families and interacting with co-workers and physicians.

  1. Basic computer operation skills required.
  2. Must possess professional communication skills, and work effectively with a diverse customer and coworker population.
  3. Healthcare Provider CPR certification or must successfully obtain at hire.
  4. Possess ability to make independent judgments and multitask in a fast-paced environment and under stressful situations at times. Must work effectively and efficiently without direct supervision.
  5. Understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the provider-patient relationship, including but not limited to HIPAA guidelines.
  6. Current Montana Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) certificate preferred.
  7. Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred.
