As an Analyst on our Corporate Strategy and Financial Planning team you will play an important role in supporting AES’s important strategic decisions, portfolio objectives, capital allocation plans, and investment opportunities. Through detailed financial modeling and analysis, your work will be used to determine how we will optimize capital allocation and achieve our desired portfolio. You will report to the Portfolio Planning & Analytics leader and collaborate frequently across all functions on the team, including with our Investment Committee management, corporate strategy, and on company-wide financial plans. This position involves frequent exposure to AES’s executive leadership team and provides a significant development opportunity to an individual looking to build a career in the fast changing electric energy infrastructure and services industry.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Build and maintain complex financial models to support capital allocation decision making, which will include growth plans as well as potential asset divestment plans
Analyze long term and sector trends, exploring consequences to our strategy; support data analytics capability for long term planning
Perform market and competitor research, supporting the identification of new ideas, opportunities and risks for AES and its different businesses
Support our Investment Committee decision making by preparing analyses of our pipeline and capital allocation alternatives
Maintain our business development pipeline database and prepare presentations on future portfolio evolution scenarios
Engage with a large network of AES stakeholders to support portfolio and business analysis
Support the financial planning team as needed in different projects, including but not limited to budget cycle and long-term plan discussions
Bachelor degree in Finance, Engineering or another highly analytical field
3-5 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, strategic planning, or financial analysis
Strong analytical capabilities and previous experience developing data-driven analyses
Strong knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
Superior financial modeling skills
Ability to produce clear reports and presentations
Interest and / or previous experience in the energy sector
Analytical power: can develop complex models to tackle complex problems
