GCI's Engineer IV, Systems will design, Implement and
support technical infrastructure that includes network, hardware, and/or system
software components. Research and design best fit infrastructure, network,
database, and/or security architectures. Charged with growth of virtualized
compute and storage solutions of network services to include operating systems
selection and approval.

Position focus assignment could be:

- Application Engineering

- Policy Engineering

- Video Engineering

Essential Duties of All Levels in the Position: Responsible
for designing highly available physically diverse fully redundant virtual
compute and storage solutions for all network services business units within
the core network and at edge. Ensuring
all systems have optimal resources and solid disaster recovery plans.

Additional Job Requirements: At an advanced engineer level, will be expected to perform most complex and diverse design, plans, analysis, and implementation under deadlines and operating constraints. Receives minimal direction on assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions; must be able to make independent decisions and provide technical direction and resolution. Should have knowledge of other engineering disciplines. Will review and provide final engineering design specifications and service requirements. Ability to lead a team, coordinate, direct, assist, provide technical direction, and mentor junior engineers and supporting technicians. Will be responsible for designing highly available physically diverse fully redundant virtual compute and storage solutions for all network services groups in the core network and at the edge. Ensuring all systems have optimal resources and a solid disaster recovery plan.

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Proficient operating, deploying, and configuring both Windows and Linux Operation systems.

- Advanced knowledge of networking: including vLANs and subnetting.

- Expert level design and engineering of virtual compute and storage infrastructure and solutions.

- Expert level working with and deploying VMware virtual environments.

- Advanced level of deploying and maintaining data SAN or vSAN infrastructure.

- Physical Servers, Virtual Servers, Linux, Windows Server, Openstack, VMWare, Citrix, High availability, SAN, NAS, Backup

- Must be able to work within a team environment or independently

This position will have an Architecture & Planning Focus:

Position reports to: Director, Systems Engineering

Purpose of Assignment: Plan and develop project designs with an interdepartmental focus for GCI Product, Consumer, Business, Information Technology (IT) and Network Services groups. Provide technical leadership and help to set design standards and guidelines for product development and product support operations. Assist with cross-departmental vendor selections. Support company's Enterprise Architecture, System Engineering, and Project Management teams in advancing sanctioned projects through the development and execution phases of the Product IPF development and Network Service project engineering processes. Provide overall inter-departmental technical value to ad hoc project teams comprised of Architects (EA/SA), Network Engineers, Project Managers, Stakeholders, and other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Develop, coordinate and review technical deliverables, design packages, and phase gate findings/recommendations in support of the phased project development efforts.

- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and perform the role of System Engineer for company initiatives, crossing departmental boundaries for projects involving multiple disciplines and requiring technical leadership. Scope project efforts and engineering deliverables based upon input from Project stakeholders, SLAs and other members of project team. Identify risks, dependencies and critical path items for mitigation/resolution. Document system design parameters (SoWs, PEPs, MoPs, drawings, circuit records, etc.) to include utilizing SAFe, ArchiMate, MetaSolv and MS Visio / Office tool sets.

- Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt, by replacing, upgrading or consolidating equipment, platforms and services. Define requirements for new initiatives and products that require new network capabilities; requirements include system design, standards compliance, availability targets, operating performance metrics, operational support and staff training. Direct technical groups in conceptual development of network systems to support end-to-end project goals. Maintains currency and professional skillset by advancing credentials, as well as participating in training, continuing educational opportunities and technical organizations.

In addition to Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Strong background with a thorough understanding of Systems (Computer/Servers/Cloud), Networking, Security, Netcracker, Provisioning, various specialty fields such as Wi-Fi, EPON, IPTV, etc.

- Broad knowledge across the spectrum of Telecommunications infrastructure and systems to include RF Transport, Data& IP Transport, Inside/Outside Plant, Cellular & Broadband Wireless, Access, Long-haul, Facilities and the acceptance testing of these systems. Extensive experience designing and deploying projects for rural, suburban and urban locales.

- Demonstrated superior diplomatic and interpersonal communications skills including experience interfacing with leadership teams, project Stakeholders and Managers, managing/coordinating project teams and interfacing with engineering staff members and other SMEs. Ability to review and ?redline? teams work product, design packages and other project artifacts for technical content, clarity and quality in a constructive manner.

- Excellent communication, speaking and presentation skills with experience interfacing to a variety of audiences to include project stakeholders, project managers, project engineers and technician staff members.

- History of project engineering success with a focus on action and results-centered behaviors. Willingness to take ownership and responsibility for decisions.

Minimum qualifications:

- Minimum of ten years' experience in the server
infrastructure, backup & recovery and virtualization fields required.

- Experience within a Telecommunications or like
industry valued.

- High School diploma or equivalent required.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science,
Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field is required.

- Or, in addition to minimum experience required;
a combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to
perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required
on a year-for-year basis.

- Certifications:
Industry specific certifications highly valued and may contribute toward

- Preferred Certifications: Linux/UNIX, SAN, EMC,
Netapp, Cisco CCNP, CCIE

Physical Requirements:
Primarily sedentary office work with some travel to remote locations
across the state of Alaska where indoor and outdoor work may be required. Physical effort may include stooping,
kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling,
lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, using hand tools and repetitive
motions. Clarity of vision to see near,
mid-range, and color. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions: Standard office environment, occasional
travel in rural Alaska, some outside work required. Qualified candidate must be
able to occasionally work in cramped spaces and at heights, primarily inside
and outside of remote GCI and customer facilities. Ability to tolerate
temperature and weather extremes (fumes and odors, dust, low light conditions,
intermittent weather).

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7
environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to
public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business
needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to
respond to the immediate emergency. You will be requested to provide an
emergency after hours contact numbers.

Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and
maintain a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory
driving record
