The Enterprise x86 Lab (EXL) is a provider of firmware for high end platforms with a focus on being a key contributor of firmware for the common unified infrastructure platforms. We are seeking strong and talented leaders who are solution focused, team oriented, and versed in working across geographies for the optimal delivery of high quality products on a predictable schedule.

This position is for Manageability Firmware Development Engineer. This Engineer will participate in multidisciplinary research and will collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers in the design, development, and implementation of various firmware features for Mission-Critical class servers.

The position includes the analysis, design, programming, debugging and modification of firmware (e.g., embedded code). Work often involves digital hardware and real-time operating systems. The position requires knowledge and exposure to hardware design. Engineers typically program in high-level languages (e. g., C, C++) or python.


The successful candidate will be expected to leverage their knowledge of project planning, hardware / software design, hardware / software testing, PMF best practices, computer architecture, and their understanding of partner / customer needs to design, develop, integrate, test, and ultimately support high quality firmware for time-to-market delivery of the HPE roadmap.

How you will make your mark:

  • You will design enhancements, updates, and programming changes for portions and subsystems of firmware.
  • You will analyze design and determine coding, programming, and integration activities required based on general objectives and knowledge of overall architecture of product or solution.
  • You will write and execute complete testing plans, protocols, and documentation for assigned portions of applications, identify, debug, and create solutions for issues with code; and integrate into application architecture.
  • You may lead a project team of other firmware engineers, internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for your assigned system or subsystem.
  • You will collaborate and communicate with management, internal teams and outsourced development partners regarding firmware design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
  • You will represent the firmware engineering team for all phases of larger and more complex development projects.
  • You will provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff members.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3-6 years of experience in firmware/software development.

Knowledge and Skills:

The ideal candidate for this position would have the following experience/knowledge:

  • Highly desirable to have prior experience in embedded linux firmware development
  • Strong SW Development skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Designing firmware, including interaction and integration with hardware design
  • Knowledge of operating systems, computer architecture, software engineering, data structures, software/hardware interfacing, and of fault tolerant computing principles, practices, scale up system design
  • Firmware testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, testing scripts and tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels
  • Very knowledgeable in C, C++ and Perl and Python scripting languages
  • Strong understanding of Redfish (Restful API)
  • Experience with Java, JNLP, javascript, HTML5 preferred
  • Experience in Object Oriented Design
  • Experienced in OS/Firmware interaction and debugging multiprocessor code
  • Leading and working with cross-functional teams (HW and SW) as well as practical experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills that extend across cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Annual Salary: $73,200.00 - $106,100.00
