The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology-Oncology-Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a full-time (unclassified) Professional Research Assistant (PRA) position.

Nature of Work:
Laboratory-based translational research on brain tumors, with a focus on pediatric high-grade glioma (HGG); depending on willingness and/or experience, there may also be opportunities for involvement in clinical research. Conduct experiments; assist with project planning, data interpretation, authorship of presentations and publications, and lab management
Examples of Work Performed:
- Culturing of brain tumor cell lines 20%
- Conducting experiments using techniques including drug and radiation treatment of cell lines and mice, western blot, shRNA/CRISPR-Cas , qPCR, protein/RNA/DNA extraction, immunofluorescence microscopic cell imaging, mouse dissection 40%
- Assisting with analysis of bioinformatic data 15%
- Preparing laboratory data for discussion and presentation 5%
- Attending and presenting at laboratory meetings and research conferences 5%
- Assisting with writing of scientific manuscripts and grants 5%
- Assisting with lab management, including purchasing and budget maintenance 5%
- Potential to participate in the operation of clinical trials in addition to lab duties if desired 5%
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates may be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $38,000 to $43,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Cellular, Molecular, Developmental Biology or related field
- Previous internship (e.g. summer experience) or extracurricular (outside of college lab courses) experience in an academic research laboratory
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Condition of Employment:
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to conduct experiments using common molecular biology techniques
- Ability to properly document scientific research
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and conduct basic statistical analysis
- Communication skills in English
- Ability to initiate and complete tasks independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Tissue culture and maintenance of various cell lines
- Multicolor flow cytometry experience
- Previous experience in presenting and/or aiding in publications
