Position Function: Assists the Vice President for Patient Services in overall direction and management to achieve organization mission as well as department-specific goals and objectives. Full responsibility, authority and accountability to set and evaluate standards of care, practice, performance improvement, and policies and procedures. Full fiscal accountability for areas assigned. Leads managers, supervisors, clinical nurse specialists and instructors in leading employees. Creates an environment that promotes employee self-development, maintains a high level of employee morale and promotes the shared governance concept. Qualifications and Standards
Education: Master of Science in Nursing Administration, Business or Health Care Administration or must achieve within 3 years. Appropriate education in clinical field, leadership, business or general health care.
Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. Administration experience of at least three years.
Certifications/Licensure: Licensed in Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse required. Nursing Administration certification or certification in specialty preferred.
Director Job Class Specifics 1. Interprets and applies corporate goals, objectives and plans in the development of assigned areas. 2. Consistently follows through with cost/variance reporting, holds managers accountable regarding operating within budget & submitting justifications. 3. Assists managers with labor contract interpretation in collaboration with the Vice Presidents of Human Resources and Patient Services to ensure adherence. 4. Keeps managers and employees abreast of regulation requirements in the delivery of patient care and assures compliance to regulations. 5. Reviews performance improvement, financial, staffing, attendance and variance reports submitted by managers and reports overall findings and action plans to the Vice President. 6. Advocates with patient care staff and medical staff as needed in matters pertaining to professional care and treatment of patients to ensure high practice standards at all times. 7. Works with staff to improve ownership of their practice, process and performance. 8. Assists in follow up of issues pertaining to patient safety and facilitates in-depth process review. 9. Coordinates unit-based PI activities to maximize the use of common reporting and measurement tools and to maintain momentum towards improvement. 10. Utilizes outcomes data (patient complaints, team building, Press/Ganey, EFTs, UBPI, staffing effectiveness) to evaluate the departmental product and makes recommendations for change. 11. As needed coordinates patient flow. 12. Collaborates with directors of Patient Services in planning/implementing changes to improve nursing/pharmacy/respiratory products. 13. Prepares reporting tools that reflect the measured change and timeline of same for major process changes. 14. Within the unit leadership team formally analyze each voluntary turnover with an eye on opportunities for change to minimize future turnover. 15. Collaborates with leadership and staff to improve patient harm metrics. 16. Collaborates with leadership and staff to improve patient experience metrics.

- (Director for Cardiac Services only) Fulfills all job duties of Nurse Manager for assigned area.
Nurse Manager Job Class Specifics:
Evaluates and redesigns processes using a multi disciplinary approach. 2. Assists in the follow up of issues pertaining to patient safety and facilitates in depth process review. 3. Organizes unit/department with emphasis on work simplification and best use of time and personnel to achieve quality, safe and continuous care within the guidelines of outside regulatory agencies. 4. Updates job descriptions and performance evaluations as needed. 5. Provides direction during fluctuating workload, crisis, and unusual or emergency situations. Maintains visibility to staff. 6. Recommends personnel for hire promotion, upgrade or termination. 7. Ensures Event Reports, Employee Incident Reports and follow up reports are correctly completed and processed. 8. Works with staff to identify and meet patient, family and customer needs. 9. Actively contributes to the development of departmental goals and objectives consistent with the Patient Services Department and hospital and health system goals and strategic plan. 10. Recommends changes in scheduling, staffing and skill mix as needed. 11. Within the unit leadership team formally analyze each voluntary turnover with an eye on opportunities for change to minimize future turnover. 12. Utilizes appropriate mechanisms to solve problems & resolve conflict. Directs staff to do the same. 13. Attends and/or actively leads unit based meetings. Serves on Patient Services committees and/or task forces as requested and as appropriate. 14. Keeps Director updated regarding unit/personnel/patient activities. 15. Works with staff to improve ownership of their practice, process and performance. 16. Collaborates with staff to eliminate the hospital acquired condition of falls. 17. Collaborates with staff to eliminate the hospital acquired condition of pressure injuries. 18. Collaborates with staff to eliminate the hospital acquired condition of C Diff. 19. Collaborates with staff to minimize overall patient harm.
