A biology instructor in the Department of Biology must be prepared to teach a full range of lower-division biology courses to include, but not be limited to General Biology (for non-majors and for majors) and Human Anatomy & Physiology via multiple delivery methods (both lecture and lab). The person filling this position must have a strong commitment to undergraduate science teaching and a broad foundation in the life sciences (typically, this requires at least a Master’s degree).

Salary: $42,250 (MS) to $45,250 (Ph.D.)

Timeline: For best consideration, applicants should submit materials by December 31, 2021. This position will start fall of 2022.

Location: Departmental responsibilities will be located on the Twin Falls, Idaho campus; some teaching responsibilities may be online.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach 15-16 contact hours of biology each semester in accordance with the descriptions published in the CSI catalog.
  2. Develop and implement online and hybrid learning experiences that are consistent with CSI best practices in this area.
  3. Mentor, support, and assist dual credit faculty and the entire Early College Unit by serving as a faculty liaison to dual credit instructors.
  4. Devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours as determined by college policy, and bring to the attention of the immediate supervisor any conditions which might affect employment.
  5. Provide collegial support to extracurricular activities that occur in the department.
  6. Assist the department chair in the development of semester schedules, textbooks, and outcomes assessment processes.
  7. Participate in faculty development goals to improve professional effectiveness including instructional evaluation processes, the “Online Teacher” certification training, the “New Teacher” effective teaching workshop, and other professional development opportunities to include a three-year onboarding process.
  8. Provide current copies of course syllabi to chairperson each semester.
  9. Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through the appropriate channels.
  10. Assume responsibility for giving exams and other measurement necessary to determine student level of performance and understanding.
  11. Monitor student placement in courses and student progress; maintain accurate records.
  12. Interact with and advise students.
  13. Promote and help with learning assistance services.
  14. Cooperate with other areas of the College to provide an effective educational program.
  15. Assist in the preparation of budget requests for each year.
  16. Assume responsibility for all equipment assigned to the faculty member or to those under his or her supervision.
  17. Attend and participate in all departmental, division, and faculty meetings.
  18. Participate in all graduation exercises.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the relevant discipline or a closely related field.
  • Experience in online education (development and pedagogy) strongly preferred.
  • Teaching experience (curriculum development and pedagogy) strongly preferred.

  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
  • Develop and maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with members of the college department, administration and staff.
  • Develop and maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with members of partner high school departments, administrations and staffs.
  • Interact well with college students.
  • Have experience advising students.
  • Have experience integrating technology in instruction and implementing distance learning strategies.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Use of computers in a multi-media classroom environment located throughout the campus.
  • Comfortable in online educational environments
  • Possible dual credit requirements to include teaching one or more sections at local high schools in accordance with CSI Dual Credit policies.
  • Possible travel to dual credit sites to provide support to dual credit instructors as needed.
