Agency Statement:

The Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) is an Alaska Native non-profit corporation, charged with advancing Tribal self-determination and enhancing regional Native unity. TCC has an extensive rural health care system to support health and promote wellness to Indian Health Service beneficiaries.

Job Summary: The Systems Engineer's role is to take ownership of the organization's servers and storage technologies and keep them running smoothly. This responsibility includes building and implementing new environments; responding to escalated support requests; troubleshooting virtual infrastructure issues to ensure continuous access to critical data; and representing technical interests on projects which have a large server component. The Systems Engineer will participate in large scale, cross-functional projects and relevant research, and will work closely with other TCC teams to ensure the success of each project. This position often requires a flexible schedule and the ability to travel in order to address enterprise components without affecting the care and services offered by the organization.



Required Skills

Representative Duties: Under the direct supervision of the IT Operations Manager incumbent will:

  • Administer and maintain organization-wide Active Directory and Group Policy hierarchies.
  • Configure and install servers, storage, operating systems, and applications at datacenter, branch, and rural branch locations.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot critical systems' health to include remote, collocated environments.
  • Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex enterprise system problems.
  • Recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions.
  • Test, patch, and upgrade servers, storage, operating systems, and applications to improve functionality and stability or address security concerns.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment using current department asset manager.
  • Resolve incoming tickets from end users needing enterprise applications and resource allocation support.
  • Record, track, and document the problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Required Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience in the fields of computer science, computer engineering, or enterprise IT administration. Certifications preferred.
  • In-depth, hands-on experience with virtual environments, geographically distributed compute resources, disaster recovery, SAN administration, remote access technologies, and enterprise operating systems and applications.
  • Two (2) years of experience in Information Technology.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Must pass background check pursuant to Federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Detailed knowledge of VMware, NetApp, Microsoft Server technologies, Citrix, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • In-depth, hands-on experience with enterprise and desktop applications, including Microsoft operating systems, and Microsoft productivity software.
  • Support of servers, storage, and datacenter operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with installation, maintenance, operation, and testing of business continuity technologies and methodologies.
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and communication concepts.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of technical documentation.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to coordinate with other subject matter experts to deliver technologies to the end user
  • Understanding of generally accepted project management philosophies.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills.
