This Laboratory Director oversees and manages the staff and technical services of the clinical laboratory and radiology services at the Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC). The Director provides overall operational and administrative oversight of the laboratory and radiology. The Director develops, implements, and monitors laboratory and radiology processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient testing and analysis. The Director monitors, assesses, reviews and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of the Laboratory Department. Implements the policies and procedures, ensuring Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement and compliance according to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) for laboratory and all regulations for Radiology.



Required Skills

Essential Functions

  • Ensure testing systems developed and used provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance, which includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
  • Monitors, assesses, reviews, and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory.
  • Writes standard operating procedures and prepares reports and statistical summaries.
  • Investigates and resolves un'ina (patient) and employee incidents and discrepancies in laboratory and radiology analysis. Investigates recall notices, manufacturers updates and software upgrades.
  • Manages and schedules staff, develops goals and priorities and assigns tasks and projects. Develop skills and training plans, counseling, training, and coaching assigned staff.
  • Performs complex clinical analysis. Evaluates and processes specimens, received for analysis to determine the suitability of the specimen.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on laboratory instruments, designs and implements maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure that the quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvement programs are established and maintained to assure the quality of laboratory services provided and to identify failures in quality as they occur.
  • Ensure that all necessary remedial actions are taken and documented whenever significant deviations from the laboratory's established performance characteristics are identified, and that patient test results are reported only when the system if functioning properly.


Required Experience

Education

  • Masters in one of the following, Chemical, Physical, Biology, Chemistry, or related field or a combination of education and experience may substitute for a degree.

Experience

  • One (1) year of experience of direct oversight of a laboratory services.
  • Three (3) years' of supervision experience.
  • Experience in Laboratory Information Systems.

License/Certification

  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) or equivalent certification.
  • Must have a valid Alaska's Driver's License and remain insurable under the Tribe's policy.

Special Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIPPA and 42 CFR.
  • Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Leadership and teambuilding skills.
  • Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others.
