To perform routine and specialized examinations in Ultrasound; adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic results; prepare patients for examinations. This requires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a Vascular Surgeon.
Assumes personal responsibility for training fellow technologists/students and uses time, supplies and other resources productively to promote responsive and cost-effective care for our patients
1. Shares knowledge and guides fellow technologists/students with proper department protocol and procedures
2. Displays a professional attitude in the area toward fellow technologists/students, fostering mutual respect and creating productive learning environment
3. Teaches ultrasound procedures to fellow technologists/students
4. Maintains working knowledge of equipment in order to function in all areas of ultrasound.
Maintains all ultrasound equipment within the Perinatology Department & Labor & Delivery
Performs reasonable trouble shooting
Reports equipment problems through appropriate channels
Maintains clean work area, checks and stocks all supplies in their specific area and verifies pertinent accessories assigned to that room
Checks for expired supplies/items
Invasive Procedures--assists with amniocenteses, drainage of cysts as needed
Able to document area of concern
Willingness to care for the Ultrasound Probes on all machines
Technically knowledgeable of equipment operation including hardware and software
Performs high level disinfection on all transvaginal probes after each use Performs support functions of the Methodist Medical Group Perinatology department to ensure patient expectations and needs are met.
Promptly processes images and paperwork to ensure timely turn around in providing a report to the physicians office
Maintains and coordinates patient flow to ensure efficient and expedient patient care
Willingness to transport patients from Labor/Delivery department to Ultrasound Area
Call patients from reception area to exam room, set patient up for exam/tests.
Take patient vitals
Willingness to learn Doppler of various fetal vessels
Willingness to become certified in nuchal translucency for perinatal diagnosis of chromosome abnormalities Performs ultrasound procedures in a manner that ensures an accurate and complete examination within the guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of Medical Imaging to assigned patients of all ages.
Exhibits competency in performing ultrasound procedures
Images required views demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathology
Obtains accurate histories and explains rationale for procedure to patients/families
Evaluates the ultrasound images through the use of appropriate transducers and machine settings
Maintains quality care throughout the procedure
Education:
Associate's Degree in the field(s) of Radiology Technology
Required Credentials:
1. CPR
2. Certified as Ultrasonographer.
3. ARDMS (OB) (NT)
4. Registry eligible incumbents will have 3 months from employment start date to become board certified (extension may be granted under certain circumstances)
Experience:
1-3 years of experience in/with OB Ultrasound experience, experience in 1st trimester ultrasound required.
