SUMMARY

• Responsibilities for the Mortgage Underwriter III will include performing a variety of loan documentation, duties on conforming loan packages and complex loans, using comprehensive knowledge of policies and procedures for loan products. Possess a knowledge and ability to underwrite regular (non-HAMP) loans.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Customer service to internal and external clients
• Respond effectively to customers (internal and external) and actively participate in discussions to help the department run more efficiently
• Review, analyze and make final determination on loan documentation; main function of job
• Work with team members to identify potential suggested solutions/exceptions for denied loan files
• Remain up to date for program and investor guidelines
• Complete tasks as delegated by Relationship Management/Division Management
• Additional duties as assigned
• Ability to absorb guideline changes and apply them immediately with minimal error rate
• Willingness to work on a special project when assigned
• Ability to mentor Mortgage Specialists and Junior Underwriters when required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent minimum; real estate/mortgage banking courses helpful
• Minimum 2 years current underwriting experience conforming and one year within the last two years.
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; analytical skills
• Ability to handle frequent changes
• Creative/innovative problem solver
• PC skills required. Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel
• Confidentiality required in handling of security
• Credit decisions on conforming loan (non-HAMP) documents
• REQUIREMENTS:
• Testing is a requirement prior to employment
• Math and Mortgage Test- Acceptable Test Scores
• PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• An Underwriter III will be completing a quota of files set by management and maintaining an error rate of less than 5%. Material errors on files are not acceptable.
• Demonstrated ability to comprehend program changes and new program guidelines
• Ability to implement new changes in daily production
• Contribute to the weekly Underwriting Meeting and any special project meeting assigned
• Mentoring Junior Underwriters by knowing that any guideline changes have been thoroughly explained and understood and that they are being implemented in the daily production
